Welcome to the World of Indian Muslim Cuisine

This Website is dedicated to my mother, Mrs. Monira Begum. All recipes belong to her.

There's her picture on the left with my nephew. If you like the recipes say hi to her if you see her on the road. My mom comes from Murshidabad, and she is famous for using very little oil and spices in her food, yet cooking up super tasty delicacies. You won't find greasy, spicy, artery clogging, heart busting recipes here.

If you are in Kolkata and are a girl/woman, you can join up for one of her cooking classes at Y.W.C.A. (S N Banerjee branch). Don't worry you don't have to be a Christian, you don't even have to be young for that matter.

Feel free to try these out.

If after trying these recipes, it doesn't taste good, it means you are truly a horrible horrible cook. You should immediately refrain from any further culinary misadventures. Maybe you have other talents (like snoring really loud or downloading pirated movies, or both), but cooking is not your thing. Yes, you would have to be that bad to screw up these recipes. Don't feel bad, it will save time and you can watch the pirated movie you just downloaded.

Weekly Cooking tip

How to tell a Fresh fish?
Fish gills are the first to go bad, so are excellent indicators of the freshness of the fish. Gills should be bright red. Eyes should be bright, clear and bulging (not sunken). Hold the fish at the head and the tail, and the body should not sag by much. The scales should feel strongly attached to the skin.
